Within the bus industry, Bath has always had a slightly eccentric reputation as a depot.  Over the years, the site was home to the complete variety of bus services – including city and country routes, National Express coaches, open top tours and coach hire.

The City of Bath has a strong sense of identity invested in its buildings, but much of this is focussed on its beautiful listed or historical buildings.  So why should we remember a monstrous construction like the Manvers Street Bus Station? 

Functional buildings like this, particularly those built in the 50’s and 60’s, are routinely demolished and replaced with more modern, ascetically pleasing versions as part of many urban improvement programmes.  Do you feel we should be documenting, remembering or even celebrating the place such buildings had in our culture?  We all recognise that these buildings do eventually come to the end of their serviceable lives, but do we loose something by forgetting them and their roles in our lives?
